paul kahan’s original restaurant, blackbird, and his second one with chef de cuisine koren grieveson, avec. restaurants that are meant to create a fun atmosphere shared with family & friends rather than a “pretentious dining room” as anthony bourdain likes to say. both are in chicago. i think this calls for a road trip next summer.

it wasn’t as amazing as i remembered it to be on my first visit years ago. maybe it was because we didn’t order the more higher priced rolls or maybe it was because i wasn’t focused on eating in the present moment. my sister and i had a birthday to go to after so i was watching the time. either way, sushi anywhere can satisfy my appetite.
